Making Science Unforgettable!

Walk into Mr. Rohyan’s 4th grade classroom, and you wont find students just learning- you’ll see them discovering, experimenting, and having the time of their lives.

On this particular day, the energy was electric as Mr. Rohyans kicked off the lesson with a read-aloud from Erosion, setting the stage for the day’s hands-on GLC Lab: Earth Changes- Erosion and Weathering. Every few pages, he threw out thought-provoking questions, sparking big discussion, big ideas, and even bigger curiosity. Students eagerly shared personal experiences, recalling tips to canyons, beaches and hiking trails where they had seen erosion in action.

Then came the moment they had all been waiting for- hands-on science time!

With energy buzzing through the room, Mr.Rohyans guided his students through the experiment setup. Working in teams, they carefully taped rulers to trays of sand and poked holes in their cups. The anticipation was building, and when Mr. Rohyans finally handed out large cups of water, the classroom erupted in cheers!

“This is the best kind of lesson! I can’t believe we get to get messy in class!”

Students carefully poured water onto the sand, watching as it shifted, collapsed, and carved out tiny landscapes. Suddenly, hands shot up- they weren’t just seeing erosion, they were understanding it.

"I love science! I want to be a scientist!"

Then came the big challenge. Mr. Rohyans asked, “What do you think will happen if you tilt the trays?” The students huddled, making predications before stacking books to create different slopes. As soon as the water hit the sand, students watched in awe as the landscape shifted before their eyes.

This is what the GLC curriculum is all about! It’s not just learning- it’s experiencing science in action. It’s about students who may struggle in other subjects finding their moment to shine, making real world connections, and developing a love for learning.

Mr. Rohyans is all about hands-on learning, and the GLC curriculum makes it easy. “Everything is fun, engaging, and follows the new standards well.” he said. Mr. Rohyans proves that a little mess= BIG learning. His classroom is a place where science comes alive, where students think like problem-solvers, and where future innovators are born.

Mr. Rohyan’s passion for active, hands-on learning is shaping the next generation. In his classroom, learning isn’t just something students do- it’s something they experience!
