A Joyful Journey through Science with GLC

Mrs. Haas’ Kindergarten Class at Eastwood Elementary

Stepping into Mrs. Haas’ Kindergarten classroom at Eastwood Elementary feels like entering a world of fun and discovery. Her students are filled with energy and excitement as they dive into science using the ETHOS Grade Level Certified (GLC) National Science curriculum. One student exclaims, “Yay! I LOVE that today is science day!” Today, they’re exploring the GLC Magic Motion Unit, which combines hands-on activities with basic science ideas of “Push and Pull”!

Mrs. Haas creates a classroom where every child feels included and supported at their own levels. The GLC curriculum helps her do this by providing helpful tools like graphic instructional guides (GIGS), adjustable materials, and one-on-one teaching. These resources let her adapt lessons to meet each student’s needs, making learning fun and meaningful for everyone.

The kids are working in small groups to learn about motion. Mrs. Haas started the lesson by reviewing with the kids what they had previously learned. Today they are exploring ramps. The students were fascinated how a lower ramp causes a car to go slower, while a higher ramp causes a car to go faster AND farther! The students are able to work in groups of two to three and took turns letting the car go, setting up the ramp, or measuring the distance that their car traveled. They asked questions, shared ideas, and worked collaboratively to solve problems. This allowed Mrs. Haas to move around the room, cheering them on and guiding them with questions.

The GLC curriculum is making a big difference with her students. These young learners aren’t just memorizing—they’re engaged, curious, and discovering first hand how much fun science can be! The GLC hands-on curriculum is building a strong science foundation, connecting learning to the real world, and providing students with essential critical thinking and problem solving skills they’ll need throughout their lives.

Mrs. Haas and her students show how amazing learning can be when great teaching meets an awesome “teacher driven - student focused” curriculum. Together, they’re building a love for science and creating a classroom full of curious, confident kids! WELL DONE!
